Introducing Lumion Pro Lumion 2023 marks the beginning of a new chapter with a completely redesigned rendering engine. In October 2022, we revealed that ray tracing was coming to Lumion, a massive undertaking that required us to completely rebuild our renderer from scratch. Today, the time has finally come: Lumion 2023 is live! Lumion 2023 is unlike any previous software release. By completely redesigning our rendering engine to integrate ray tracing in addition to rasterization, we can now provide a platform that is faster and easier to develop than ever before. Highlights of Lumion Pro The new Lumion 2023 renderer Since Lumion’s inception, the idea that 3D visualization should be accessible to all architects and designers, regardless of their technical background, has driven us forward. Our goal has always been to imagine the future in a fast, simple and intuitive way. To enable architects to create without barriers or hesitation, presenting designs that transcend form and function to capture hearts and minds. The release of Lumion 2023 represents a complete fundamental change in the software in many ways. Lumion 2023, powered by a hybrid renderer that works with rasterization and ray tracing, helps you achieve the best quality results, regardless of hardware. So even if you don’t have a ray-tracing capable graphics card, you’ll still see a significant improvement in Lumion’s rendering quality thanks to its improved rasterization technology for any building architecture, landscape or interior. Ultimately, it’s not the technology itself that matters, but how it’s used for a higher purpose. Whether it’s developing a plan, exploring ideas, or presenting your vision, this goal is entirely up to you. Introducing Ray Tracing v0.9 Unlike rastering, ray tracing technology doesn’t require any tricks to mimic reality: it calculates how light behaves in the real world. When the effect is enabled, renders automatically include more realistic indirect lighting, off-screen reflections, contact shadows, and more. Lumion’s new ray tracing effect lets you control the number of patterns and bounces, giving you more control over the end result. See your design in a new light The new lighting system of Lumion 2023 opens up a world of possibilities and enables a more natural presentation. Reflections now work automatically when the ray tracing effect is enabled. With ray tracing, curved surfaces display an accurate reflection, so no reflection plane is needed. In the first implementation, the ray tracing effect does not support reflections from glass or water. Make your surfaces realistic Often the smallest details help to communicate the design most effectively. Reflections on the facade. The light passing through the curtain. Wet cobblestone street. When the materials look real, the design comes to life. By fine-tuning these details with a few clicks, you can create a visual experience that appeals to all your senses. Improved Material Editor The Material Editor has been significantly improved to provide greater control over material settings. The Lumion 2023 material editor offers the following options Additional material properties The Lumion 2023 raster workflow allows you to control subsurface scattering. This gives objects a translucent effect, allowing light to penetrate the object and diffuse it gently. You can also influence the hue of the scattered light by assigning a color to the material map.
